Wooden Beads

I am one of those who has a soft spot for wooden beads of all shapes and sizes. Here are a few images of Indian hand made jewellry (earings/necklaces), key chains and buttons/accessories using wooden beads. I picked them during annual handicraft exhibitions & artisan melas that were held in Vizag.

They are cute Sailu. I am not very fond of jewelery, but I love the wooden buttons on cloths. They look beautiful.

sailu, back in india i prefered plain simple cottan kurtas to any other dresses. most of my kurta/kurti had these shells, wooden beads and metal buttons which i would hand pick from articraft shops close to my hostel. i miss wearing them so much after coming to UK. u surely are killing me posting these pics. and i cant get enough of long earlings, the only jewellary i wear :)

Sailu, It is such a treat to eyes and stomach to visit your blogs. I used to wear a lot of Handloom (Kalamkari, Khadi, Lepakshi, Handloom house) and Lucknowi kind of salwar kameez/kurti’s back home. I used to love mine plain/white with these kind of accesories. I get so nostalgic when you talk about those exhibitions in Viswapriya function hall, prahlada kalyana mandapam etc. Miss Ryhtu bazar (I personally love the one in MVP colony) and miss these exhibitions.
    Great post!!! Waiting for more.

    Hi Sailu,

I am so glad you have a site for ethnic clothing and accessories. I visited Vizag 3 yrs ago and I just loved the city. Its indeed a wonderful, clean and beautiful city situated among hills. While I was there I had to pick up pochampalli cotton sarees for my mom and mom-in-law. I am a big fan of exhibitions and most of my clothing and home accessories are bought from only exhibitions. I really miss the beautiful dupattas, stoles and lovely terracotta and wooden bead jewellry.

    Hello ,

I am coming to vizag for my vacation, can you tell me where do i get this wooden beads jewellery in vizag. A quick response would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sandhya, there is no particular store selling wooden bead jewellry. You can check out ‘Prapancha’ (opp Waltair Club), they might have. I’m not sure though since mine are bought during exhibitions and travel.
